The CASO Design IceBall Pro makes crystal-clear spheres of 50 to 55 mm, a shape that changes how ice behaves in a glass. Because less surface is exposed relative to volume, a sphere melts markedly more slowly than a cube and cools evenly, rather than in patches the way stacked cubes do. According to the manufacturer it keeps a drink cold for up to 90 minutes, depending on ambient temperature.

Built for spirits and cocktails

That low melt rate is what makes the sphere particularly suited to whisky, gin and cocktails: the drink holds its concentration of flavour to the end. The visual effect adds to it – a clear sphere in a rocks glass reads very differently from an ordinary cube.
